A Point of Service program is an advanced form of managed care that balances cost savings of using provider networks with flexibility and maximum member choice. Each member chooses a primary care physician (PCP) to provide routine preventive services and coordinate other medical care. POS members can seek care from providers who are not in the network and still receive benefits.
SUPER BLUE SELECT
Mountain State offers the Super Blue Select POS program, which includes a network of physicians, hospitals and other providers who work together to provide the care that's needed when it's needed.
Select covers preventive care, office visits, well child care, specialist services, outpatient services, hospitalization and prescription drugs. The primary care physician (a general practitioner, family practice, internal medicine or pediatrician) and coordinated care are the cornerstones of Select. Just like the old-fashioned family doctor, the PCP guides the patient's health care--providing treatment, arranging tests and making referrals.
The highest level of benefit is provided when care is performed or coordinated by your primary care physician. A lower level of reimbursement is provided when you self-refer or seek care which is not coordinated by your primary care physician.
Through the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, over 348,000 physicians and 4,200 hospitals nationwide meet the medical needs of more than 3.7 million members. Mountain State's Super Blue Select program covers over 26,000 members in West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and Kentucky.
