MOUNTAIN STATE BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD TEAMS
WITH THE (PARKERSBURG)-On Saturday night, hundreds of people participated in an event to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's "Light the Night Walk" was held at Laidley Field in Charleston. In supporting the Walk, Mountain State Blue Cross Blue Shield distributed a book specifically written to help cancer patients live with and understand their illness and its impact on their lives. The "Light the Night Walk" gave Mountain State Blue Cross Blue Shield the opportunity to provide participants with a copy of a book written by and about a small boy who triumphed over Hodgkin's Lymphoma. "You'll Be All Right Buddy" was written by Ryan Hamner of Columbus, Georgia. Ryan wrote his story in the hope that he could explain and ease the hearts and minds of children having to go through the courageous battle of fighting cancer. It's an uplifting story that Mountain State Blue Cross Blue Shield has shared with cancer patients and their families. Over 3,000 copies of "You'll Be All Right Buddy" have been printed and distributed by Mountain State. Books have been sent to Oncologists, Pediatricians and Hospital Administrators for use in their waiting areas across West Virginia, as well as to all members of the West Virginia Legislature and school nurses. "Mountain State is proud to provide financial support for the printing and distribution of Ryan's story," said Gregory K. Smith, president and CEO. "This is one of those areas where we can provide more than healthcare benefits to the citizens of West Virginia. We will be extremely pleased if this book helps even one child better understand and deal with this devastating disease," added Smith. Mountain State representatives distributed the books to the participants in the "Light the Night Walk" and provided popcorn and snow cones.
