What Is Managed Care?

Managed care programs are designed to make health care easier and more affordable for members. In managed care programs, the managed care company makes contracts with providers to provide services to its members at a negotiated price. In return, the providers receive a high volume of patients.

The patients see lower copayments, office visit fees and deductibles, depending upon the type of coverage they choose. Some programs ask the member to choose a primary care physician who acts as their family doctor and oversees care and treatment, including referrals to specialists or orders for diagnostic tests.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans have over 20 years experience in building managed care programs.

Among the excellent managed care products offered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association members are point of service (POS) and preferred provider organization (PPO) programs. These programs represent about 48% of total enrollment for Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans, nationwide.

At the Blues, we reach beyond the mountain peaks and embrace the sky for you by providing quality benefits and cost competitive coverage options.
